Meadowdale Primary School

The children have been busy learning this week about how to subtract numbers up to 10 e.g. 7-3 or 10-9. The children have used multi-link cubes to help them see the number sentence visually. Most children are demonstrating a really good understanding of this but any additional practise they can do at home would be great.

In English, we have written sentences about the Big Bad Wolf from The Three Little Pigs and retelling parts of the story in our own words. In phonics, we have continued to learn the /ee/ sound spelt e, ee, ea and y. Next week, we will start to learn about the /oe/ sound spelt oe as in toe, ow as in crow, , o-e as in bone and oa as in goat.

In our topic lessons next week, we will be investigating different everyday materials. The children will match objects to the materials they are made from and investigate which materials are waterproof or not. We will be reading a book alongside this topic called Molly's Jolly Brolly.

Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who have volunteered to help with reading in school. We are still hoping that maybe a few people might be able to come in and hear some readers on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday. If you can spare a half hour or even an hour on a regular basis, we would be eternally grateful. Please pop in to see us or ping us an email if you are able to help.

We are in the process of assessing the children's reading at the moment and some children are now ready to start reading the next book band up. As ever, we would suggest that regular home reading at a time when your child is not too tired will help immensely to build their confidence and fluency.
