Meadowdale Primary School

What can Meadowdale offer your child?

At Meadowdale we provide a happy, caring and inclusive environment which enables every child to reach their full potential.

Our modern, purpose-built school is home to talented and supportive staff team who share a strong collaborative ethos and are committed to ensuring that our curriculum is innovative, inspiring and, most importantly, engaging.

We strive for excellence and are always looking for ways to develop our potential even further.

Our school has a strong family ethos and we also offer a wide variety of co-curricular activities, including sport and the arts.

We aim to enable all children to develop into fully rounded individuals who leave our school confident, resilient and ready for whatever challenges and opportunities they may encounter.

At Meadowdale we want to make sure your child is happy and safe. All our staff believe that the well-being of your child is as important as their academic learning. Children complete a ‘mood and feelings’ questionnaire regularly throughout the year.

If you would like to arrange a visit please email office@mdw.learnat.uk or call us on 01858 465479.

What do our parents say about Meadowdale?

At Meadowdale believe it is vital to develop close links with parents and carers in order to provide a link between home and school. This video shows some of the feedback we have received from our parents.

High quality Foundation Stage provision

In Foundation Stage at Meadowdale our children grow to be independent, curious and motivated learners.  They leave Foundation Stage with the skills to explore the world of reading and writing and show pride in working as a team to be kind and respectful friends.

Our EYFS curriculum is delivered through a careful balance of teacher-led sessions and child-initiated exploration.  Children are taught skills for phonics, literacy, maths and understanding the world through whole class lessons and then have the opportunity to apply these through exploring our continuous provision.

Our Foundation Stage classrooms are newly-refurbished and decorated in neutral colours and wood tones which help to create a calm environment for the children to learn and play in. The children have access to a dedicated outdoor area where they can continue their learning outside with a range of toys and activities including a mud kitchen, reading pagoda, play house and wheeled toys. The children also have a weekly session in our forest school area led by a specialist forest school teacher.

An innovative, broad and inspiring curriculum

We aim to provide a well-planned curriculum that:

  • Provides a stimulating climate which enables pupils to learn and achieve to the highest possible standard.
  • Seeks to extend pupils’ skills, knowledge, understanding and creativity.
  • Provides opportunities for pupils to fully master skills and understanding before moving on to the next step
  • Encourages every child to develop as an independent, self-motivated learner.
  • Values each individual within a climate of mutual care, trust, respect and honesty.

A strong culture of reading

We pride ourselves on our strong reading culture at Meadowdale. Reading is at the very heart of our curriculum. Our English lessons are centred around a range of high quality children books. We very much link spoken language, reading and writing in order that children can become more confident in all areas of the curriculum. Our aim is that every child will leave our school as a confident and competent reader with a love of books.

Every child learns to draw, paint and develop their art skills

We are VERY proud of our Art curriculum. All of our pupils learn how to draw, as well as exploring various media throughout their 7 years at Meadowdale.

Each year group also focus on one artists for an extended period.

A strong track record in sport

We aim to give children a broad and varied curriculum of physical activities and opportunities in order for them to understand the importance of a healthy active lifestyle, and to enjoy taking part in sport.

Meadowdale has a strong track record in competitive sport including the local schools swimming gala and county-level competitions.

Ready, Respectful and Safe

We work hard to make sure that Meadowdale is a safe and happy place for all of our pupils. We teach children how to form good friendships and treat each other with kindness in our PSHE lessons, and also make sure that they know what do do if something goes wrong. Internet safety is embedded in our computing curriculum so that children underrstand how to protect themselves online and what to do if they experience cyber-bullying. Our popular School Council is a chance for children to share their views with school leaders and to play an active role in making our school better. Play leaders organise games and activities at lunchtime to help build friendships and teamwork across year groups
