Thank you to those of you who attended our Open Evening on Tuesday. It was lovely to chat with you and we were so pleased to hear that many of the children were enjoying Year 1 and settling in well.

This week, we have been learning about what changes have been made to our school over the last 10 years. We have examined new and old maps and spotted differences and discussed the reasons why things may have changed.

In English, we have read a story called, 'The Pig in the Pond'. Next week, we are reading, 'The Three Little Pigs'. The children will be retelling some of the story in their own words. We have been learning how to form our capital letters correctly.

In Maths, we have been using part part whole methods for simple addition and starting to show the children how to lock a number in their heads ready to count on e.g. for 5+3 we would tell them to lock in the number 5 into their head and then count 3 more on their fingers - 6, 7, 8.

Thank you for all the home reading you are doing with your child. Many of the children are now regularly changing their books. Three times a week is the minimum that we expect the child to read with an adult at home but more than that would be preferable.
