Meadowdale Primary School

15/11/2019

We have been busy continuing to learn the /ow/ sound in phonics this week. The children are becoming more confident with this. Next week, we will be moving on to learn the /oo/ sound as in moon, spelt ew (blew), oo (broom), ue (blue), u-e (brute), o (do).

In English, we will be reading, 'The Magic Train Ride' and practising sentences with adjectives in them and joining words with 'and'.

In Maths, we will be learning how to add numbers within 20. The children will need to be secure with their place value and understand that the teen numbers are made up from a ten and a one. Some children are still writing 18 as 81 and we will be recapping this and practising it over the next few days.

Thank you for reminding the children to have their reading book in their hand as they come into school in the morning if it needs changing. Please keep doing this as it helps prompt the children and us. We are pleased with the progress of the children and many of them are now starting to move up through the book bands as their decoding abilities, fluency and comprehension develops. It is worth bearing in mind that it is not good practice to move them on too quickly as we want children who are confident and display a good understanding of what they are reading. This is very much dependent on a good level of fluent reading within a book band.

Thank you for your kind donations to our Children in Need fundraising on Thursday.
