The children are continuing to work hard at adjusting to the new routines. In the morning we ask the children to put their reading packets into the coloured book boxes ready to change or read with an adult if needs be. Mrs Macpherson will then change the books with both classes.

We are having a big focus on using the new writing books and correctly forming all the lower and upper case letters. We will send home a pack of handwriting paper next week at the Open Evening so that the children can practise at home. At this stage, we are really aiming for all children to form the letters correctly and for them to be of a consistent size. The more automatic this skill becomes, the easier it is for children to focus on other elements of writing e.g. composition and spelling.

In Maths, we have been learning about 'one more' and 'one less' with numbers up to ten. Next week, we shall start looking at number bonds to ten and some simple addition.

In the afternoons, we will be practising cutting skills in Art and, in Science, we will be learning about our senses.

We shall look forward to seeing you at the Open Evening on Tuesday 17th September. This will be an opportunity for your child to show you around their new classroom and show you some of their early work. We will also share a brief presentation about life in Year 1 and will be around to chat informally with you.
