This week, the Fire Service came to deliver a talk on Fire Safety to both classes. Please have a chat with your child about what they have learnt.
In maths, we have begun to look at units of measure. We have discussed how to convert from metres to centimetres, kilometres to metres, kilograms to grams and litres to millimetres. We revisited multiplying by 100 and 1000 in order to convert between these units of measure. We consolidated our understanding of the place value system. This unit of work will continue after half term.
In English, we have used another short animation film called Lighthouse as a stimulus for our writing. We discussed the message of the film, how tension was built throughout and also discussed the feelings of the different characters in the story. The children have written a descriptive paragraph about the main plot of the film and also described the events and feelings from each character’s perspective.
We had a great afternoon on Tuesday! We learnt about the food that the Aztecs ate and how different and similar it is to our diet today. The children enjoyed an Aztec feast where they were invited to try many different types of food to give them a taste of the Aztec diet. We had pears, pineapples, sweetcorn, avocado, pulse bean stew, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, chillies, turkey, hotdog, tortilla crisp and tortilla wraps. We were so impressed with the children’s willingness to try foods perhaps they hadn’t eaten before or were not keen on. We also created an Aztec menu that included starters, mains and desserts.
On Friday afternoon, the children created an Aztec exhibition to display what they have learnt and created during our learning of this topic. They worked hard to prepare presentations, quizzes and displays. Different classes across the school came to visit and view the exhibition. What a brilliant celebration of their learning!
There is no homework this week. Have a lovely half term break.
